In Esteemed- God and His View of Women Jamie Hulker has given us a beautiful exploration of women in the Bible and how these are not side stories, but pivotal parts of God’s plan from the very beginning. I’ve included a picture of the table of contents because it always helps me to see what is included. You’ll see some familiar names and probably some that are much less familiar. I mean, we all know the story of the woman at the well, right? (Or do we??) But how many of us have spent time studying the daughters of Zelophehad? Of course, there are lots of studies out there on various women in the Bible, but this one really approaches the topic in a way I’ve never seen. These stories are brought center stage as a way to get to know God’s heart for all His children better and how we can all work together in the “blessed alliance” to make Him known in the world. If you have ever heard that the Bible is a misogynistic book, or God doesn’t really care about women, or if you know He does care, but want to know how they fit into the big picture, this study is for you. Two more important points— First, to address the question some of you are reading reviews to find out, is this a study for complimentarians or egalitarians?? Yes. Just trust me. You’ll see! This one is for all of us no matter where you fall on that debate. Second, this is NOT a study just for women! It is absolutely a vital study for men too! Of course it is great for women and girls, but if you know women, teach women, parent girls who will become women, or otherwise interact with women in your family, church, or workplace, this study is for you too. I really believe it will change the way you see God’s intention and heart for men and women and encourage every one of us to reflect that heart better in our homes and communities!
